Kymco, founded in 1963, initially partnered with Honda and later became independent in the 1990s, producing a wide range of vehicles including scooters, motorcycles, quads, e-bikes, and SSVs. With 60 years of experience, Kymco manufactures over 600,000 vehicles annually and has sold more than 10 million in 100 countries, commanding 40% of Taiwan's domestic market.
Strategic Partnerships
Key partnerships include Honda, Kawasaki (2009), BMW (2007), Arctic Cat (2000), and Harley Davidson (2021). At the end of 2021, Harley Davidson and Kymco announced a partnership for the electric motorcycle brand Livewire. This partnership aligns with Kymco's long-term investment in electric vehicles.
A logical move for Kymco, which has been investing in R&D for years to develop an ambitious plan for electric vehicles under the “iOnex” name. This strategy aims to move away from fully thermal vehicles and offer greener mobility solutions. Like Kymco, Harley Davidson believes in the future of electric vehicles. Additionally, both brands are known for their innovation and unexpected ventures.
Research and Development
At the forefront of innovation, Kymco's leader Allen Ko decided in 2011 that the company should invest in the electric sector. This direction materialized in 2018 with the iOnex range. The group now offers numerous decarbonized vehicles, charging installations, and a removable battery system. Although still rare in Europe, Kymco's electric vehicles are gradually entering the market.
